How to miss a perfect score, Elise's style
Can't answer the question: ❌
Unreadable handwriting: ✔️
Typical Elise lol

Kinda enjoyable but also a forgettable show. NGL, Yui Ishikawa made the show more enjoyable by quite a magnitude for me. Everything is quite average and there are not many things to talk about. Still don't mind if it gets another season -- 6.5/10 overall.

Wort Igon • 1 month ago

Considering this season was kind of the "prologue" of the story, and ended before the war arc where most of the interesting stuff happens, I'd say reaching above 5 is already a pretty big win for the author. Heck, Elise didn't even get the 1 title of the ton that are all listed at the very end of the story, which made it into the title of the manga. "The Royal Lady with the Lamp"

Raziel • 1 month ago

Even after what you say is the prologue nothing much happens, she's always miss perfect forevermore anguished about her first life and torn about how much she needs to atone for all her sins that now only exist in her head since time has been rewound, the entire series is about a adorable and sweet girl who's a serious workaholic with a massive guilty complex, past this we get to war and she fully reenact nightingale's journey with a bit more drama added along with the dual romance added "oh i dont know but i feel so safe and secure on the side of this person who oh so clearly resemble's my former husband from another life except his blonde, oh but i still am oh so enchanted about my former husband but he must clearly despise me except that was in another life and i'm now a completely different person"

And this continues till chapter 100 something of about 160 chapters wich then changes focus about how the brothers NEED to kill each other even if none of then want it

omegalord777 • 3 weeks ago

we both know you're painfully aware of several issues with the things you have said or the way you said them. there are simply too many for you to genuinely fail to comprehend less than 3 to 5, regardless of what you might claim in response to such a statement. such inability would not be due to incompetence or ignorance, but rather a refusal to even consider thinking about it.

now, regardless of what you might think... i didn't show up here to fault you. right now the force compelling my response is neither my narcissism, my inferiority complex or my PTSD. it's not a savior complex, i despise the amount of harm caused by people like that as i have been on the receiving end of it for too much of my life. it's simply that i find a small measure of satisfaction in the act of attempting to help others.

as such, the only thing i want to say regarding your conduct here is that no matter what else is true... there was some form of reason which caused you to feel and act on impulse. however, i think you should be able to accept that it was certainly possible to act upon that impulse in a manner less prone to self-degradation. that's all i care about, there's no need to sabotage yourself even if you genuinely don't care about how your actions look to others.

Gekai Elise is an interesting story with a really interesting premise. I don’t remember seeing an anime about real surgeries, and I was quite pleased with it.

It is a typical shoujo story, but with the twist that the FMC wants to become a doctor in the isekai. She has experience of being a doctor in our world, so it makes sense she wanted to continue in the same line of work.

With that being said, I really appreciate the medical factor of the story – the surgeries and the descriptions of said surgeries, etc. I’m not studying medicine, so I don’t know how accurate it all really was, but it all seemed well described to me and it really piqued my interest.

All-in-all, I liked this story and I might pick up the manhwa (it’s a Korean story, if I remember correctly). I can rate Gekai Elise 7/10.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

I think it'd be more accurate to say the author hasn't done any research on medicine at all. Hygiene isn't much of a big deal, yet there's disinfectant for their instruments, and the surgeons wear masks, but the nurses behind them don't. Basically the level of knowledge ranges from the medieval era to modern day.

Elise just so happens to know all, which at best, feels supernatural, and at worst, lazy writing. And nobody seems to know how, why, or care that she can do all this, let alone woke up one day and suddenly has an interest in medicine and change in personality.

And you know she's gonna get her cake and eat it too. If Elise wants to work on medicine, OK, that's fine, but given your position, wouldn't it better to, IDK, advocate or maybe endorse a push on research on medicine? New techniques, convenient ways to cure patients, medicine, etc. Like....did nobody, including the King's right-hand-man, ever think of this?

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 month ago

If you think this was so so on the animation, cgi, and the stationary simple story line of the characters in such.
Just read my review on Snack Baise for that anime has the most cheapest of animation with not really any story at all but It's gonna get a good rating from me and you will see the reason why.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 month ago

Gekai Elise (Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp)
Source: Web manga/manhwa.
Genre: Fantasy, romance, (medical).
Studio: Maho Film.
(Known for By the Grace of the Gods, If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord, I'm Standing at 1 Million Lives, and In the Land of Leadale)

Personal thoughts:
What is there to say that the animation in this was decent, with a good story with simple back and forthing with each said characters interactions.
The OP and ED were pretty nice Yui Ishikawa aka Elise her self singing both.

Aside from some cgi quality issues the story was unique for a isekai that is based on a historical like the reincarnation trope Elise was reincarnated as a Japanese child and a orphan to boot.
While becoming a doctor/surgeon she is trying to make up for her past self through trail tribulations until she got she died and regress to her past self to make up for that and that sir is good writing right there (At least to me.

As a anime that focus yet again on medical genres this showed actual surgery and such like Monster Girl Doctor did but more serious but still the whole royals/political stick is once again being use in a typical story.

The romance in this was rather bland compared to 7-Loop but focus pretty well on Elise's friendship/ relationships with other characters that made this wholesome.

Anyways the modern and medieval come and collides was really great but some of the drawback to this was it was dry and dull but still a good watch so 6.8/10.

Raziel • 1 month ago

She does it, but only near the end of the series, where at that point her agenda is surgeries for about 8 to 12 hours a day, then work as future queen, then work for making lessons to instruct future physicians and spreading medical know-how, then about 3 to 4 hours of sleep whenever she's so exausted she simply falls sleep in the desk till morning comes or someone woke her up

Nono, lets give a potential serial killer who knows the inner workings of blood vessels and organs the benefit of the doubt because she's cute :D

Imagine • 1 month ago

This is not in the medieval era lol. You are confused. Medieval era started at 476 AD. This is time period is somewhere in the 1900 since glass is everywhere, horse carriage, roads, cakes and so on. The setting is in the 1900s in a kingdom ruled by nobility.

Medieval era is often used in fantasies with magic, dwarves and elves. However, for shoujo manga, they often use the 1900 time period because that is when nobility were into egotistical things like clothes, ballroom dances, jewelry, opera, and so on. This era is perfect for prince charming, Cinderella stories, and love stories in general.

FlowingWithTheFlow • 1 month ago

Nah more like before the 1900s. By then locomotives and cars existed. This may be late 1700s or somewhere in the 1800s if anything.

Haruto Michishige • 1 month ago

Likely the mid to late 1800s due to the appearance of the pistol used to attack Linden's bodyguard in the first half of the show. I do not believe pistols of that make existed in the 1700s.

Before my step-father died, one of the things he responded to me about my observations of medical-knowledge always finding out that maybe something like 25% of what the previously knew was wrong until they got it correct, according to them, what he said was that medical-books tend to be approximately 25% obsolete or out-dated every 10 or so years (his wording, which doesn't necessarily imply being wrong, even though it could be interpreted that way). For all we know, even if the medical-knowledge in this show is currently accurate, 25% of it could be found to be inaccurate in another decade from now; oh, and, I should probably add, he was a doctor.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

I'm sorry for your loss, he sounded like a great person.

What kinda medical stuff did he do?

Also, if he taught you about observation, I can only imagine how he'd respond to this show's handling on medicine.

Mega-Chad-Type-Hero • 1 month ago

I should probably clarify that he was the second step-father and that I was the one making the observations about things that I noticed about the medical-industry;

I merely inquired with him about my observations and he worked as a radiologist until the day he was no longer able to go to work due to medical-complications that resulted in him ending up being on hospice for cancer; I will hold off on mine own deep-analysis about the medical-aspect-handling of this show and just mention what I believe he would be most-likely to say : That, whilst an interesting show, I am sure he would notice the inconsistencies in medical-knowledge and practices, and would probably also point out the inadequacy of the actual necessary equipment needed to have performed a lot of the medical-procedures that were depicted.

His (medical) text-book-knowledge was also very high, so, I am sure he would praise the FMC's studious-nature, but, I don't think he would give too high of praise for the true-nature of medical-procedures which I will translate into my own terms in regards to how a lot of times they seem like rather «forced medical-plots» something similar to the phenomenon of «plot-armour» where things just work out for the characters because «plot-armour» but in this case it would be «medical-plots» where patients are too conveniently saved despite the lack of information that is actually known about each patients' medical-conditions.

Being a doctor > Being a queen....

But I enjoyed this series it was a decent watch lol

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

As an isekai, I agree.

As an anime made by Maho Film, it was a good watch.

Not saying much for either considering we recently had isekai about a vending machine and a pig, and also Maho's track record, but I enjoyed it just the same.

arra1213 • 1 month ago

butareba is really good story lore and setting with its dark tone involving murder r*pe slavery abduction to steal internal organs
but the best part are the last 2 episodes that twist never saw it coming even with the foreshadowing on earlier episodes on why the pig got isekaid as a pig cuz of just selfish reason

Utsuro • 1 month ago

The ending was solid, but I wish they didn't add that part where Buta-san meets others who had also been to Mysteria. Still, Jess and Buta-san's goodbyes were touching but that almost made it meaningless. Overall, it was a great watch

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

OK, now I'm intrigued. Been wanting to finish up, just hadn't had time, that and better stuff to watch.

Even if it's selfish, the fact you WILLINGLY ate raw pork liver is still stupid as hell, and then to get reincarnated as a pig? Did this guy and the isekai'd vending machine meet the same goddess? Because to be reincarnated as the very thing that killed you is ironic and cruel. You look at Kazuma and think his death is pathetic, or the MC in the spider isekai got the short end of the stick until she became what she is, and then you see Butareba and Vending's MC's and think, "There's other isekai protags who've had it worse..."

And it's hard for me to take the pig seriously anyway when you look at his character as you see him as either his VA Matsuoka voicing the same self-insert protagonist, or him voicing Inosuke from Demon Slayer.

arra1213 • 1 month ago

"the fact you WILLINGLY ate raw pork liver"

wait what lmao theres no eating pork liver in butareba and the pig is just an ordinary pig no skill or whatsoever
the pig cant even communicate to people (its the yethmas aka slaves ability why the pig can communicate)
also it has better lore than most isekai theres an episode here in gogo that people put alot of theories incuding me i got 50% right lol
the selfish reason i dont want to spoil it but theres some sort of foreshadowing in the earlier episodes

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

I know he's an ordinary pig, and TBF, I stopped at episode 4, so I can't say I have the full context as of yet.

As for the pig, it's meant to be a joke since his VA voiced Inosuke in Demon Slayer. And even if it IS better, I'll admit, like the vending machine, it's not bad, but that's the problem.
It adds nothing new to the table, and I hate to break it to you, saying it has "better lore" or better anything doesn't mean a damn thing when isekai as of late sucks with shows like Shield Hero S3, Am I Actually the Strongest, Level 1 Skill, and My Isekai Life. The fact we not only have isekai about pigs and vending machines, they're better than some isekai, REALLY says a lot on how low the bar's gotten.

arra1213 • 1 month ago

the pig is not the center of the story here and the only reason why the pig exist is because of the selfish act of one character so its not fair to compare it the other isekaid mc lol
this is jess and the yethmas stories the pig is just some npc of sort imagine dragons dogma pawn system the pig is comparable to that lol

Mega-Chad-Type-Hero • 1 month ago

Just be glad it's extremely tame compared to the absolute-depravity of cruelty that I am aware of from elsewhere... (talking insanity on a level of forcing those one hates into re-incarnating them into babies and burning them alive; not saying that they don't or didn't deserve it, but, you know, most people would be horrified of scenes involving the «sacrificing» of babies for dark-religious-rituals...)

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

Don't worry, I'm glad indeed.

It's just that when you think about it, I couldn't help but think to myself that it feels ironically cruel and twisted for the MC's of Butareba and Vending Machine to become the very things that killed them.

And you wonder what cruel goddess they had to have met....couldn't have been Aqua, that's for sure.

Raziel • 1 month ago

Worse is the spider MC, she was just a helpless spider who was targeted by a bored god

Attila Tinkovay • 1 month ago

It's not just an isekai.
It`s a Double-Isekai. First of a kind.

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 1 month ago

Just like I thought Mikhail would save her, those hired men still trying to kill Elise in that situation, they read the room and decided to ignore it lol. It was interesting to see how skilled with the sword Mikahil is. I wish we got to see the two nobles punished them running away screaming wasn't satisfying enough.

I wish we had gotten to see more of Linden and Elise, due to their positions it's understandable they won't get as many interactions and why the disguise route was used, but I do feel the romance aspect of this was lacking in comparison to many other romance anime that came out this season. Hopefully if this gets another season, we will be able to see more interactions now that Linden has sort of implied interest to Elise.

SaberCaliburn • 1 month ago

I technically thought the disguise route was used more to hide from the public but I didn't really get why he had to hide it from her. I guess they didn't want to go a more romance route and more like they wanted to just show her ambition in being a doctor and didn't want the whole romance thing get in the way because she would of caved into being a queen or something like that.

Although I will say that you can see Linden slightly changed a little more and feels more gratitude of Elise not just because of her saving his father but I guess it sparked something in him that she sees in her. The whole saving lives and trying to become a doctor.

I too hope we get another season and one that kind of shows a little more interaction and a little more stuff because it was decent and I enjoyed it.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

Gekai Elise is brought to you by Maho Film, the studio behind Grace of the Gods, Million Lives, the Rie Takahashi villainess isekai, Level 1 Skill, and more!

Of everything Maho's put out since their debut nearly 5 years ago this July with UchiMusume, this is easily one of, if not, their best works they've done. Although, this ain't exactly a compliment. This IS the same studio behind one of the worst isekai in Million Lives, and they recently dropped Level 1 Skill and that VRMO anime last fall.

Frankly, there's not much to say. The plot is barebones. The animation's the same in all of Maho's works, including the goddamn CGI horses. The characters are easily the weakest part in all this, as everyone simply does their role, and unlike those in 7th Time Loop for instance, there's no personality or motivation. The OP by Elise's VA Yui Ishikawa and the ED are both fine, but they're just there. And I never went to medical school, but the way they go about medicine in this show is odd, as there's a mix of both modern and medieval methods. Also, where the hell's the lamp in all this?

Overall, it's not offensively bad but it's not good, and it's painfully generic. Might be a decent time if you turn off your brain, I suppose, but you can do better with other shows. If you want a show about doctors or medicine, just watch Parallel World Pharmacy.
Final Verdict: 6/10

I remember you and Raziel mentioning that.

Fortunately for you two, I happen to enjoy history. It was my favorite subject in school. Though I prefer the term "social studies", if I had to pick a specific history class, I'd say US History.

Normally I don't read ANY comments with the spoiler tag, because one, I like to be surprised, and ofc, obvious reasons, and 2, I'd hate to read one and then get potentially trolled.

ThanoosUdom • 1 month ago

Hm... 6/10 or 5/10 for anime is understandable, If you were just an anime only viewer. Cause look at it by itself, it can be seen as one of many mediocre shows of the season. But for those who had read the web comic? I say... 3/10... And that me being generous.

An adaption not included the important details of the source materiel is bad enough... But changing how the story actually goes and turn it form good shojo fantasy into some kind of all over the place fan fiction? Now that's a failure of an epic proportions.

As a reader of a many source materiel, when it come to Maho Film I have to say... They didn't have a good record... scratch that... They have a shit record when it come to adaptions. Every Light Novel they turn into anime came out as a disappointment. It's quite appalling to see many good series with solid plot and story got degraded into forgettable run of the mill shows...

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 month ago

I'm anime-only. Also, dang, 3/10? OK, I'm curious on what persuaded you to give it as such. And I've always said that studios and individuals NEED to be called out when they drop the ball or don't deliver. But ofc people will tell you Maho's "not to blame" since they didn't make the manga or LN, it's the committees and whomever.
I get there's a whole process and all, but is it not the studio's job to be as faithful to the source as possible, and the director, writers, and producers to translate from manga/LN to anime?
I find it odd that people here in the anime fandom will tell you you can't blame a studio for dropping turds, or you have no say because you're "not the main audience", but they'll attack the Mushoku Tensei author for slavery, send death threats to Trigger for Darling in the Franxx, and attack a MAPPA animator for two dude fighting in sailor uniforms in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Silver Link also has a similar track record when it comes to adaptions, especially when collabing with Blade, but at least you know what you're getting with SL. JC Staff is also a mixed bag, being the McDonald's of anime due to pumping out several shows in a year, but I'd say they're an exception due to having more resources than SL, Blade, and Maho, and JC having some hits on their belt.

Maho hasn't improved at all in the near 5 years they've been around. As bland as their shows look, as lackluster as they are, they stood the test of time....I guess.....meanwhile Studio Bind exists solely to adapt ALL of Mushoku Tensei, but gets crapped on because they made MT. Yet Maho gets a pass, and the Kamikatsu author gets a pass for taking a month to claim the show's "trolling people".
